Spheres of Work
A Trust established to continue his legacy needs to find its place in society, where the limited resources in its possession are put to good use. In Sri Lanka there seems to be an anomaly where on the one hand it seems like an over-crowding of development agencies and on the other hand insufficient institutions to carry out the work. The choice becomes even more difficult when basic needs such as shelter, water, sanitation, safety, psychosocial support, food security and opportunity for income generation are substantial. The lack of these services keeps the most marginalized women and men at bay from understanding or wanting to address the root causes of the conflict and resulting in any work other than those addressing the basic needs being deemed futile. It is important to understand that the provision of these services largely falls within the work of the state and humanitarian agencies, though far from adequate. It also requires larger funding and unlikely to be of the scale the Trust will be able to garner. In addition, the majority of this work falls within the remit of OfERR and as such there will be no clear distinction between the two organizations and the purpose of having separate entities will be diminished. Presented below are potential areas that the Trust can consider working in.
